REAL WEDDING: Honour & Jon, Ramsgate

In the summer of 2020, just as lockdown started to lift, London couple Honour and Jon hopped on a train and headed to Ramsgate on the Kent coast. With its Royal Harbour, sandy beaches and stunning sea views, the town stole the couple’s hearts.

Five years later, the happy couple returned to exchange their vows in a blissful harbour-side ceremony surrounded by friends, family, and a pair of over-familiar pigeons!

The Big Day

As I live in Ramsgate, I enjoyed the short walk from home to meet Honour, her sister and a couple of close friends for the all-important morning preparations. Honour met me with the warmest of hugs and, being a hugger myself, I knew we were going to get on like a house on fire!

Honour and Jon had found me through Facebook, and I was overjoyed to help them capture their big day in my hometown.

A’hoy sailor!

We made our way to the historic Sailor’s Church perched right on the harbour, where Jon and the wedding party awaited the stunning Honour who walked gracefully down the aisle on her Dad’s arm.

A traditional ceremony with heartfelt vows, the only cat amongst the pigeons was – well, a couple of wayward pigeons flying overhead during the service! (Ironically, Jon had sketched a beautiful pigeon on the order of service!)

Next up, showered in rose-confetti, Honour, Jon and the wedding party gathered on Jacob’s Ladders steps for some fabulous group shots, before heading to the Western Undercliff beach where the newlyweds were met with a flurry of congratulations from onlooking beachgoers!

Despite the crowds, I managed to capture them as if there were no one else on Earth!

Yamas!

The couple rejoined their party for gorgeous Greek food and emotional speeches at the Greek Arch restaurant, then outside to soak up the celebratory atmosphere of the Little Ships’ return from Dunkirk (as part of the VE Day 80th anniversary). Hundreds of people waving and cheering to the hooting of the ships’ horns made for a wonderfully festive atmosphere that added to how special the day was for Jon and Honour.

After a quick ‘fit change for both of them, the celebrations continued at the Queens Head pub where the kids (and most of the adults) danced to Taylor Swift (can’t beat a bit of Tay-Tay!) and a funky first dance to Frank Wilson. The cake was cut and the singing, dancing, and all-round revelry carried on into the evening. A stunning, sun-drenched celebration of love I feel honoured to have captured for this beautiful couple.
