Yes of course! This is usually called a shot list. Now in many magazines they'll include things like "Dad first look" or "speeches" etc however those are things that a photographer will, and should, be capturing anyway.
What I normally do with my couples is create a shot list of the family formals they'd like, so pictures with family after the ceremony, and a list of must have images for during the day at each event that don't necessarily happen at each wedding...so things like a "family heirloom tied to the bouquet", or "my sister doing my hair". And then on the day I constantly check in to see if anything else has popped up that needs photos, and run around like crazy to make sure I capture each and every moment where possible.
